Making Moves at Jamaica Performing Arts Center
September 26, 2015 at the Jamaica Performing Arts Center (JPAC). “Making Moves” offers three opportunities for dance companies:
- An opportunity for three groups to perform a 15-minute pieces each at an outdoor, afternoon event. Each group will receive a $250 stipend to present an existing work. (Afternoon)
- An opportunity for three groups to perform a 15-minute piece each at an indoor, evening event. Each group will receive a $400 stipend to present an existing work. (Evening)
- An opportunity for a choreographer to create a 30- to 45-minute work, commissioned by JCAL, which will be presented at the evening event. The choreographer will receive a $3,000 stipend to create a new work and will have access to JPAC’s rehearsal space for up to 40 hours. The choreographer will provide dancers, costumes, lighting, props, etc. out of the stipend funds. (This group will receive access to the JPAC performance space in accordance with the facilities operating hours and the approval of the General Manager). For one year following the performance of the commission on September 26, 2015, whenever this piece is performed, the program will state that it was a commission by the Jamaica Center for Arts and Learning, 2015. (Commission)Each group can request to be considered for one, two, or all three opportunities, but each selected group will only be awarded one opportunity. All groups will be provided with access to the space for one dress rehearsal and one tech rehearsal prior to the day of the event.Program Timeline: Applications are due 5PM Friday May 1st, 2015. Selected groups will be notified by Email by June 5th, 2015.Eligibility: This opportunity is open to emerging and established New York City-based dance companies with bold ideas and a progressive/contemporary nature.About the Jamaica Performing Arts Center: Formerly the First Reformed Dutch Church, the Jamaica Performing Arts Center is a beautifully renovated, fully equipped performance space that includes a 23 by 27 foot stage, flexible seating for 400, rehearsal space, and high-tech lighting and sound systems. - For Commission applications please include a description of the proposed new work you will create. The application must be received by Friday May 1st, at 5 p.m. Please do not call to inquire about the status of your application.
