  1. I greatly appreciate this thoughtful, moving discussion of the museum. I should mention though that there is no historical evidence that the enslaved women Rose or Ashley mentioned in “Ashley’s Sack,” or the embroiderer Ruth Middleton (c. 1903-1942), had any connection to Middleton Place plantation.
