Theater for the New City
Crystal Field has been bringing Street Theater to New York City neighborhoods for decades. Each summer the TNC Street Theater Players perform a new, original musical that deals with important issues of concern to everyone who has a brain. This year’s play encourages audiences to actively participate in the democratic process i.e. VOTE! We are also reminded of past struggles for human rights including the right to vote for women. While the play does not take sides, the emphasis is on protecting the environment and supporting unions, and fighting ethnic, religious and racial bias. What better venue for promoting community rights than community theater. Bring the kids and enjoy the music and colorful costumes and creative staging including a movable backdrop of the NYC subways!
Crystal Field, the Executive Artistic Director of Theater for the New City has been instrumental in supporting diversity in the performing arts for forty years. Theater for the New City, a long time incubator for emerging playwrights and creative and unusual new work, has consistently brought racially and ethnically diverse shows equally to diverse audiences. TNC has also been instrumental in supporting the LGBTQ community before it was fashionable and initiated the original Halloween Parade in Greenwich Village.
