This was a great article. I remember when I was very young my great grand father literally walked me down that street. If I’m not mistaken at onetime one of the addresses mentioned there was a Laundry, a basement laundry. And in 1979, the Hot Cha sign was still up weather beaten as heck. It’s finally gone but writers such as this give a great moment of pause and history that is slowly escaping as those that remember die.

I’m Christopher Trujillo I am the one who unearthed, restored and donated the only remaining wax figures under my name to the Leslie Lohan Museum located in SoHo Manhattan NYC .
I still have the original street sign welcoming patrons.
It was painstaking work and a complete gift for me to do so.

What a whirlwind of a night! Schoko K ö bl truly outdid himself, conducting and soloing like a maestro, even if he did seem a bit nervous about that final piece – just a touch of pre-Master’s jitters, perhaps? And the lineup? Talk about pulling out all the stops! Its like the Munich jazz scene said, Lets give our homegrown talent a standing ovation fit for royalty. As for the mystery singer – absolutely captivating! Who needed labels when you had that stage presence? Knew exactly how to make Summertime sing, didnt he? A true find! This concert is the kind of cultural feast that makes you proud, even if youre just watching from the digital bleachers. Cant wait for the video! đếm ngược online

I´m a bit late now - for publishing my mourning here, but no, it´s never late because
every time somebody like her is leaving us:
He/she will stay forever in our hearts, I´m talking about Roberta Flack who passed away February, 24, this year (by the way 3 years exactly after the criminal attack of the Ukraine by Putin´s Russia) - she for sure was one of the greatest, purest voices and musicians of the 20th century.

It makes me cry every time somebody of "You" is gone - be it Jimi, Miles Davis, Michael Jackson, Prince, Al Jarreau, Whitney Houston, Aretha Franklin, Bill Withers, no it is not about a special genre, it is about the genius of black music culture!

Look what Archie Shepp said once: `The Blues is the most important contribution to American culture in the 20th century´ (something like that - didn´t find the quote anymore!)... -

But I´d go much further:

It - the "blue notes" - means Jazz etc. as `part´ of this vast field ! - sung and played by the originary personnel - is t h e contribution to the culture of h u m a n k i n d

(yes: not the pyramids and so on!!!)... - as long as heartfelt. You can´t make this up, if one tries to do so one will have nothing but commercial hypocrisy or nothingness.

Why? Because! Can´t explain.

To my mind, it `simply´ goes to the bottom of within - the common grounds of being human and humane.

In my personal life almost from the beginning the most important gift is the gift of the so called "black music" (not only "afro-american"!) - my father´s tune already; he had the chance to experience Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong live 1960 in Munich´s "Deutsche Museum"!

(Yes, I am n o t a "black" or "coloured" person - complicating things a bit:
Dee Dee Bridgwater playin´ a concert in Paris some years ago said: "...`Black´? I´m not `black´!" -

But I also do not want to romanticize things here at all - the old times, talkin´ about the time from the beginnings up to the 70ies/80ies, were more than tough politically, ethically, they still are, and anew god-T-amned!!!!
It never really stopped - we had Rodney King; Eric Garnner: "I can´t breathe!" and George Floyd in our times) -

Black music as far as I can see also is a chant of and for: freedom, love, justice, peace and happiness (cf. the phenomenal Bobby McFerrin and 30 years later Pharrell Williams) - against all odds!

Thank You very, very much - thank You, Ron for Your work and "tranquil" engagement over the decennia!

With all my love, that is virtually spiritual

The listing is informative and enlightening to know that such cultural institutions are throughout the country. Many are not aware of the accessibility of such resources and may want to visit.
Such exposure can enhance knowledge of the past, hopes for the present……and the future!

Very nice article Ed. Thorough and interesting. I agreed with the bulk of it but being in the industry I am aware that for many, C.R.E.A.M. (a little hip hop reference for you.) I love that you gave the context of the writer's demographic and I loved the parallel of early Hip Hop and The Blues. Keep up the good work!

Hey Ron,
Sharon Hope here on this great Monday Oct 28, Just wanted to say CONGRATS on bringing back ROUTES. Don't know if you remember me, I met you through Perri Gaffney awhile back on one of your trips to New York. I believe I may still have a copy or two of your former ROUTES magazine which I enjoyed reading then as I do now.
There's Always Hope is my NuNuRadio podcast that shares stories about women we never or seldom hear about and where they've left footprints in history. This has been my contribution to the NuNuRadio family since 2021 which airs on NuNuRadio Mondays at 2 pm and Tuesdays at 7 pm (repeat)
I see you have There's Always Hope listed in the magazine, please let me know how I get my stories to ROUTES so you can continue to share all this great info with the world. Luv ya ... Sharon Hope, There is Always Hope

Good afternoon, Mr. BUNN (Ronald),

I was on ROUTES MEDIA website and just wanted to thank you and your staff for such an informative platform.

Congratulations!
