Happy Birthday Precious Dianne Reeves
🎂The jazz vocal stylist Dianne Reeves was born October 23, 1956 in Detroit, Michigan and was raised in Denver, Colorado by her mother after the passing of her father. Dianne was destined to become a musician since both her parents were in the music world and her cousin was keyboardist, composer and singer/songwriter George Duke. While still in high school, one of her performances impressed the legendary trumpeter Clark Terry so much, he invited her to sit in with him; subsequently he asked her mom if she could perform in local gigs with the band. The five-time Grammy Award winner has a distinctive voice that is immediately recognizable. She has a warm timbre with a vocal style that turns any standard in her repertoire into her own reconstructed song — no matter how well traveled it may be. She scats with an effortlessly flow which hasn’t been heard since “the first woman of song”, Ella Fitzgerald. Dianne Reeves feat. Russell Malone & Romero Lubambo – JazzBaltica 2004
