An intergenerational showcase of Brooklyn-based poets, responding to the art on display at BRIC House through verse, as well as to borough life, city culture, and national issues. Hosted by poet/writer Mahogany L Browne with music by DJ Jive Poetic.
This evening’s program will featured poet, visual artist, and Bronx native Sandra Maria Esteves, one of the first Dominican Boricua Nuyorican women to publish a recognized volume of poetry in the United States, and a recipient of numerous fellowships and awards. Esteves has published several poetry collections, including Bluestown Mockingbird Mambo (Arte Público Press, 1990) and her first book, Yerba Buena (Greenfield Review Press, 1980), selected as Best Small Press by the Library Journal. Esteves was also formerly the Executive Director/Producer of the African Caribbean Poetry Theater.
