Happy Birthday I’m Glad There was You Gloria Lynne
🍾Gloria Wilson (Aka Gloria Lynne) born November 23, 1929, in Harlem, New York, was a jazz vocalist. Her mother, Mary Wilson, a gospel singer, encouraged young Gloria to become a singer. At an early age, she sang in a church choir and at age 15, she coveted the first prize at the Amateur Night at the Apollo Theater.
In October 2010, at Harlem’s Schomburg Library, Gloria was honored for her illustrious recording career which spanned from 1958 to 2007 and for her many contributions to the national and international music industry by Great Women Inc. and its founder Roz Nixon. Her illustrious musical career led to New York City’s Mayor proclaiming July 25th as “Gloria Lynne Day.” Lynne was one of the great female jazz voices of the 20th century, but she never received the accolades she deserved. Although she had fans around the world that adored her music, and of course, her most loving fans were in her community of Harlem. In 1997, The Rhythm and Blues Foundation honored Gloria Lynne with a Pioneer Award.
