Happy Birthday to Ya Jeremy Pelt
🍾Jeremy Pelt was born November 4, 1976 in Los Angeles, California. Arriving in the Big Apple (NYC), the trumpeter was the new kid on the jazz block but his reputation preceded him. He was able to land gigs with Ravi Coltrane, the vocalist Cassandra Wilson, Greg Osby and a weekly gig with the Village Vanguard Orchestra. Today, he is an established musician and composer with over 20 recorded albums as a leader. Like the great drummer Max Roach, he is an advocate for the music and musicians, as well. His most current CD “Griot: This is Important!” (High Note Records) is a direct commitment his elder musicians. The album is accompanied by Pelt’s self-published book Griot: Examining the lives of Jazz’s Great Storytellers. Following in the straight-ahead jazz tradition, he has developed his own sound lively rhythms with striking melodies and big tone that moves the body. He has glimpses of a young Freddie Hubbard and a taste for fashion making him one of the sharpest cats on the bandstand. Christoph Schrief, CC BY-SA 4.0, via Wikimedia Commons
