North Carolina Black Repertory Company Season 2021 – 22
NC Black Rep is proud to announce their 2021-22 season. Following their weeklong celebration of the arts, Holy Ground Revival, the Company will make the return to live theatre with their holiday staple, Nativity According to the Gospels, and the world premiere of Succession.
NC Black Rep’s training program for young artists, the Teen Theatre Ensemble, will also return this season. Continuing the tradition of community outreach, NC Black Rep will present an annual food drive event, the MLK Birthday Celebration, and Living Room Theatre at Wait Chapel, bringing NC Black Rep’s free staged reading series to the Wake Forest University campus.
Culminating in the 2022 National Black Theatre Festival, they’ll be saving a seat for you this season!
Nativity According to the Gospels
December 4-19, 2021 – Hanesbrands Theatre

An electrifying rendition of the Christmas story told with an infusion of gospel music, dance, and spoken word. A Winston-Salem holiday classic, Nativity According to the Gospels is a foot-stomping, handclapping theatrical performance, filled with brilliant costumes and Afro-centric dance.
Martin Luther King, Jr. Birthday Celebration
January 15, 2022, at 6 pm – Hanesbrands Theatre
A showcase of local talent from across the Triad. Free to the general public with 3 non-perishable food donations. All donations go to the Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest North Carolina.
Living Room Theatre at Wait Chapel
February-April 2022 – Wait Chapel, Wake Forest University
NC Black Rep brings its free staged reading series to the campus of Wake Forest University. Three new plays by up and coming nationally recognized playwrights will be presented over three months in the school’s famed Wait Chapel.
Succession

When Marcus Chandler, a veteran of Black Theatre, meets Steve Harrison, a promising young actor, he appears to be a fan looking for mentorship.
Or is he?
As Marcus ruins his closest relationships in the business, Steve uses his charm to undermine him and advance to Broadway. But can Steve maintain his success with so many enemies?
Will Marcus repair his reputation and make a comeback? Succession follows these two actors’ journey as they battle each other in hopes of realizing their ambitions.

This historic event illuminates the powerful theatrical spirit and extraordinary talent of performers, designers, directors, producers and technicians from across the country and abroad.

The North Carolina Black Repertory Company (NC Black Rep) was founded by the late Larry Leon Hamlin in 1979 and is the state’s first professional Black theatre company.
NC Black Rep’s mission is to entertain, enrich, and educate with innovative programming that resonates across the community and challenges social perceptions. The company is universally recognized for its world renown outreach program, The National Black Theatre Festival ® (NBTF).
