Joyeux anniversaire Richard Bona
🎂Richard Bona, multi-instrumentalist and vocalist (who favors the electric bass) was born on October 28, 1967, in Minta, Cameroon. His vocal swing tinged with a George Benson flow, the harmony of Joao Gilberto and the electric improvisation of Jaco Pastorius, who was one of his greatest influences. His unique style is big portion of jazz, Brazilian music and everything from the roots of Africa. He is known for playing world music and jazz fusion and a few genres in between. His grandfather was a griot, a West African singer of praise (storyteller) and percussionist.
At the age of 22, Bona traveled to Germany, to study music in Düsseldorf, he later relocated to France, where he played in various jazz clubs, with such players such as Manu Dibango, and Salif Keita. In 1995, Bona left France and established himself in New York, where he played bass guitar with a varied mix of musicians including; Joe Zawinul, Mike Stern, George Benson, Branford Marsalis, Chaka Khan, and Bobby McFerrin. While living in New York City he co-owned “Club Bonafide” with restaurateur Laurent d”Antonio (2015-2020). VeszprémFest 2017 – Richard Bona and the Mandekan Cubano – Live (full concert)
