“The Purge” movie trilogy
Before I give my opinion on The Purge movie trilogy, I must admit that I am no fan of most popular films produced for American audiences. For me, there is just too much violence or underlying plots are often too simplistic and shallow. I’m an avid fan foreign films with subtitles. Though many foreign films, too, include violence their saving grace, I find, is the attention paid to character development and plot. It could be that I find it challenging matching character emotions with the dialogue, too. Whatever my reasoning, foreign films captivate me. So you might rightfully ask “Why is he reviewing American made very very violent film series “The Purge”?
I’m recommending that you watch The Purge, The Purge: Anarchy and The Purge: Election Year because the premises of the films are relevant to us who are living in the post election Barack Obama Presidential era.
I was in New York City, for two weeks, about two weeks ago and I saw enough homeless African-American men to make me feel ill. People walked on their merry ways seemingly unaware of this desperate social problem.
Would I be wrong to write we hunger for ourselves and for generations to come life’s endless positive possibilities? Yes, “Black Lives Matter” movement matters! Yes, Racism exists and it’s not going away any time soon! But we know, there are many other components to life that make living worthwhile. How about us all finding space enough for supporting African-American institutions that insure that Black lives matter. Racism is bankrupting African-American culture—we must redirect the time and energy spent on structural Racism consumption to focusing more on making the community stronger.
Though The Purge series is fictional, there is sufficient existential violence today, that, in the future it may be the norm.
