Happy Birthday Tina Something Beautiful Turner
🎂Tina Turner (aka Anna Mae Bullock ), born November 26, 1939 in Brownsville, Tennessee. She is a two-time inductee into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame along with Ike Turner in 1991 and as a solo artist in 2021. She reins as the Queen of Rock and Roll, and is one of the best-selling recording artists of all time, having sold over 100 million records worldwide. Her life story TINA is a successful musical on Broadway. TidalWave Comics is also documenting her life story. It is part of the company’s “Female Force” series which has featured singer Dolly Parton, U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris and former U.S. First Lady Michelle Obama.
Turner began her career as a singer with Ike & Tina Turner’s Kings of Rhythm in 1957. In 1960, Ike and Tina formed a duet and became an instant hit with their single “A Fool in Love”. Following the release Ike created the Ike & Tina Turner Revue, which included the Kings of Rhythm and the Ikettes, as backing vocalists and dancers. The revue was so dynamic they were compared to the James Brown Revue, a blazing stage performance. They released hits such as “It’s Gonna Work Out Fine” and “Proud Mary” (They won a Grammy for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group). Ike gave her the name Tina saying it rhymed with Sheena and he based her persona on Sheena Queen of the Jungle, the short leopard skirts and the like. In 1969, the duo opened for the Rolling Stones U.S. tour.
Tina left Ike in 1976. By 1983 she was once again rising to the top, Private Dancer album (Capital Records 1984) was the spark selling over 10 million copies worldwide (it contained the hit song “What’s Love Got to Do with It”, which won the Grammy Award’s Record of the Year). She has received 12 Grammy Awards, three Grammy Hall of Fame awards, and a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. She is the first African-American artist and first female to be on the cover of Rolling Stone Magazine. She has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and the St. Louis Walk of Fame. Turner is also a 2005 recipient of the Kennedy Center Honors and Women of the Year Award.
Turner proved she had acting skills in the films; “Tommy” (1975), “Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome” (1985), and” Last Action Hero” (1993). In 1993, “What’s Love Got to Do with It”, a biopic adapted from her autobiography I, Tina: My Life Story. In 2009, Turner retired after completing her Tina!: 50th Anniversary Tour, which is the 15th highest-grossing tour of the 2000s.
Tina is a resident of Küsnacht, Switzerland since 1994. She relinquished her United States of America citizenship after obtaining Swiss citizenship in 2013. Tuner is an inspiring role model, who has overcome challenges in her life, making a difference in the world for generations to come. ROCK ON TINA !!!!
