Happy Birthday Silky Saxophonist Houston Person
🍾Houston Person was born November 10, 1934, in Florence, South Carolina. The jazz tenor saxophonist and record producer attended the HBCU South Carolina State College. In 1999, Houston was inducted into the school’s Hall of Fame. The elder-states-man, is a straight-ahead jazzman but swings as a hardcore soul man. He plays rhythmic riffs that make listeners’ toes curl, prompting immediate finger snapping. There’s s sweet side to his horn that turn ballads into a nightingale’s song. When one speaks of Houston Pearson, it’s natural to follow it with the mention of vocalist Etta Jones. In the early 1970s, they were a teamed musically for 31 years. their performance at the jazz club Trumpets in Montclair, New Jersey was legendary.
These days, Houston is recording with High Note Records. His recording career began at the Prestige record label. He has recorded with everyone from the organ master Charles Earland, Lena Horne, Grant Green, Ron Carter and Low Rawls, just to name a few. To date, as a band leader, Houston has recorded over 75 albums.
Houston is still on the road performing for enthusiastic fans .
