Ozier Muhammad’s Opening Night at Keith De Lellis Gallery
“It was a great pleasure to attend Pulitzer Prize winning photographer Ozier Muhammad‘s Vernissage “Events That Changed The World“. He is a most esteemed colleague of mine over the years. I remember seeing him also while covering the fashion collections in NYC. In l984, while working for Newsday, his involvement in a report “Africa, The Desperate Continent” earned him a joint Pulitzer Prize for international reporting. In 9992 Muhammad became a staff photographer for The New York Times. He went on to cover President Obama’s journey to becoming the first African-American president of the U.S in ‘2008. I was always interested in seeing everything Ozier produced for the N.Y. Times. His byline always represented great work.
His sharp eye has taken him from Harlem to Kenya, Ethiopia to Chicago, where his roots lie. His early interest in photography was inspired by iconic photographers, Gordon Parks and Roy de Carava. He has certainly added to their legacies as an inspiration.
Ozier Muhammad is the grandson of Nation of Islam Founder, Elijah Muhammad.
